DigiTimes says that TSMC has received 3nm orders from a number of businesses, with Apple, Inc. of Cupertino, California, and Intel Corporation of Santa Clara, California leading the pack. Significant media coverage has been given to Intel’s partnership with TSMC for 3nm, with the most recent report alleging that the corporation has abandoned the 3nm process for certain of its devices. Additionally, it states that orders for the 3nm devices have been placed by Intel, Apple, MediaTek of Taiwan, NVIDIA, Broadcom, AMD, and Qualcomm. If this is the case, TSMC would have a significant advantage over Samsung since it will be able to swiftly ramp up 3nm manufacturing and capture a sizable portion of the market. The 3nm technologies used by Samsung and TSMC are distinct from one another because they employ various transistor architectures. While Samsung has gone to the more recent GaaFET technology, which in principle enables better performance due to increased electrical conductivity, TSMC has decided to continue with the conventional FinFET technology for its devices.
